David Warner leads Australia to victory in his final test
Australia scored 299 and 130-2 in response to Pakistan’s 313 and 115. After the match, Labuschagne had scored 62 and was at the crease with Smith (4).
David Warner concluded his 112-test career as a winner on his home ground on Saturday by leading Australia to an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in his final test match. Warner made 57 runs.
Warner was out leg before wicket off Sajid Khan’s bowling with just 11 runs needed for Australia to win the three-test series for the third time in a row. He waved to the audience as he left the Sydney Cricket Ground to thunderous ovation.
The only additional wicket to fall in Australia’s second innings came when Usman Khawaja, the opener, was declared leg-before wicket off Khan’s bowling for a duck off six balls.
Australia scored 299 and 130-2 in response to Pakistan’s 313 and 115. When the game concluded, Marnus Labuschagne, who had scored 62, was at the crease with Steve Smith (4).
With nearly two full days left, Australia quickly grabbed the last three wickets of Pakistan on Saturday morning, setting a target of 130 runs to win.
Day 3 saw Pakistan go through Josh Hazlewood (4-16), and the visitors put up little of a fight before they were all out. After Mohammad Rizwan (28) was caught at leg slip by Nathan Lyon, Pakistan collapsed swiftly despite a 42-run eighth-wicket partnership between Rizwan and Aamir Jamal (18).
To complete the innings, Lyon also bowled Hasan Ali, with figures of 3-36.
Warner had already led the squad out onto the field to begin the game, and in front of the Members Stand, there was also a painting that said “Thanks Dave,” complete with his signature leap.
Australia defeated England by 360 runs in Perth and by 79 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the second test.
