Manipur violence: No Permission Yet For Rahul Gandhi Yatra

Manipur violence: A recent gunfight between terrorists and Manipur police at the Indo-Myanmar border highlights the dire situation in Moreh.

The Congress party’s planned statewide “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” has been clouded by recent violence in the border town of Moreh, Manipur. The state administration has not yet permitted the Yatra.

A recent gunfight between terrorists and Manipur police at the Indo-Myanmar border highlights the dire condition in Moreh.

Chief Minister of Manipur, Biren Singh, acknowledged the dire situation and said that Assam Rifles, BSF, and state police are working together to conduct “mass combing operations” in an attempt to capture armed individuals who are behind the attacks on security forces.

About the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, Mr. Singh stated: “Permission for Rahul Gandhi’s rally is being actively considered.” We are receiving reports from several security organizations. In response to a query about it from reporters, he stated, “We will make a firm decision after getting their reports.”

Monday morning’s gunfight in Moreh started when terrorists opened fire on security personnel in specific areas of the town. Officials stated that mortar shells were used in the attack, but neither side claimed any deaths. This comes after a string of events on Sunday that included bomb attacks and gunfire in Ward 7 and Moreh Bazar.

The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ is scheduled to begin on January 14 from Hatta Kangjeibung in the Imphal East district, under the leadership of national president Mallikarjun Kharge of the Congress party.

During a news conference held in Guwahati, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal recently said that the Manipur government has informed them that the application is seeking “approval” from the Centre, and the party is still awaiting permission.

An ambitious 66-day journey known as the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ will travel 6,713 kilometers on foot and bus, passing through 110 districts, 100 Lok Sabha seats, and 337 assembly segments before arriving in Mumbai on March 20.
