Houthis attacks on an American ship in the Gulf of Aden
In a statement shared on social media, the Houthis claimed that the Chem Ranger had been assaulted by their “naval” forces “with several appropriate naval missiles, resulting in direct hits.”
Early on Friday, Houthi militants in Yemen claimed to have launched a missile attack on a US ship in the Gulf of Aden.
The Houthis claimed to have targeted the Chem Ranger “with several appropriate naval missiles, resulting in direct hits” in a statement that was shared on social media by their “naval” troops.
It provided no more information or a time for the most recent attack on international maritime channels.
US and British troops have launched strikes in Yemen in response to Houthi aggression on Red Sea vessels; the US announced its most recent attack on Houthi targets on Thursday.
The Chem Ranger is a chemical tanker flying the flag of the Marshall Islands that is traveling from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to Kuwait, according to the specialized website Marine Traffic.
Drones making a “suspicious” approach were detected by a Marshallese chemical tanker traveling along the same route, according to British maritime risk management consultancy Ambrey.
It was stated that one fell into the water about thirty meters from the truck. “An Indian warship responded to the event.”
The monitor stated, “No crew casualties or damage were reported.”
Since the Hamas strike on Israel on October 7, which ignited the Gaza conflict, the Houthis have steadily escalated their attacks on Red Sea vessels.
The rebels were responding to “the American-British aggression against our country” and “the oppression of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip,” according to a statement released by the Houthis.

President Joe Biden stated that unless the rebels backed by Iran stopped attacking ships in the Red Sea, the United States would keep attacking the Houthis, following the announcement of its most recent attack on them on Thursday.
US forces hit “a couple of anti-ship missiles that we had reason to believe were being prepared for imminent fire into the southern Red Sea,” US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
The attacks have caused several significant shipping companies to suspend their traffic through the Gulf.
