Bharat bandh today: Nationwide farmers protest
Numerous labor unions and Samyukt Kisan Morcha have also demanded a Gramin Bharat Bandh. The purpose of this decision is to put more pressure on farmers to meet their demands for an MSP guarantee. Numerous states will be impacted by this.
There is a conflict between Punjab and Haryana at their border as a result of the farmers’ movement. Anger-filled farmers have set up camp here and are attempting to reach Delhi. There, the Haryana Police are occupied with stopping them. In many parts of Punjab, farmers have launched the Rail Roko campaign today. In addition, the United Kisan Morcha and numerous labor unions have called for a Gramin Bharat Bandh on Friday. The purpose of this decision is to put more pressure on farmers to meet their demands for an MSP guarantee. The United Kisan Morcha has also urged all other farmer organizations to unite in their appeal.
According to Samyukta Kisan Morcha leaders, the Bharat Bandh will begin at 6 a.m. and last until 4 p.m.Rural areas will not have access to private offices, village shops, transportation, agricultural activities, or MNREGA work during this time, according to farmers. In addition, industrial operations will cease in rural areas. However, this rural Bharat Bandh will not impact the functioning of ambulances, the distribution of newspapers, marriages, medical businesses, and students scheduled to appear in exams. They will not be dissuaded.
Delhi Chalo March
The Delhi Chalo March is the catchphrase of roughly fifty Punjabi farmer organizations. They demand a formal assurance that they can only buy crops from MSP. These groups marched to Delhi in protest, but they were halted at the Haryana and Punjabi borders. This farmer agitator group is gathered at the border with Shambhu. The third round of negotiations between the government and farmers is scheduled today. This meeting starts at 5 p.m. in Chandigarh. They will return if the farmers and the government can agree to this meeting. If not, the Delhi March might be rescheduled.
What more do farmers want, besides an MSP guarantee?
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, farmer organizations have demanded a legal guarantee for buying crops at MSP. In addition, farmer loans ought to be forgiven. Free electricity up to 300 units should be distributed. It is necessary to create a better crop insurance plan and provide farmers with a pension of up to Rs 10,000 per month. It is noteworthy that according to the government, the MSP for 24 crops has already doubled. It is not, however, guaranteed to purchase the whole crop. The market will suffer as a result of this.
Kisan Andolan 2.0 is being led by a new group. However, SKM has decided to change its mind in light of the police action against the farmers who were protesting at the Haryanan borders of Shambhu and Khannauri.
The country’s main farmer unions, Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), are under growing pressure to take part in Farmer Movement 2.0. Up until now, the United Kisan Morcha has refrained from joining the Delhi Chalo movement initiated by farmer organizations on February 13. However, there is mounting pressure on them to do so.
Samyukt Kisan Morcha
A nationwide network of farmer organizations is called Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM). In light of three contentious agricultural laws, it was formed. Farmers nationwide staged a 13-month-long agitation on Delhi’s borders under the direction of SKM between November 2020 and December 2021. As a result, the central government was forced to rescind the divisive agricultural law.
We would like to inform you that a new group is leading the farmers’ movement known as Delhi Chalo, or Kisan Andolan 2.0. This time, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and SKM (non-political) are leading the movement. However, SKM is now being forced to change its position due to the Haryana Police’s constant use of tear gas against the farmers demonstrating near the borders of Shambhu and Khannauri in Haryana.
On Wednesday, February 14, in Jalandhar, the Punjab unit of SKM, which is made up of about 32 significant agricultural organizations in the province, convened an emergency meeting. Following this meeting, SKM Punjab resolved to offer free parking at all toll plazas in the state from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In addition, the workers at Bharatiya Kisan Union Ugrahan, the biggest agricultural organization in Punjab, are exerting pressure on the organization. Following this, it appears that this organization’s leadership is ready to take action. BKU Ugrahan has now decided to stop trains in Punjab from moving between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on February 15.
The group claims that it made this decision in protest of the Haryana Police’s alleged use of tear gas shells fired from drones and their alleged persecution of farmers in Shambhu and Khannauri. Let us inform you that a sizable contingent of farmers pulling carts and tractors can march in the direction of Delhi should BKU Ugrahan choose to formally join the present farmer’s movement.
In addition, the SKM leadership has now chosen to bring up the purported action against the farmers who are demanding an MSP guarantee law at the Khannauri and Shambhu borders. In contrast, Haryana BKU Chaduni convened an emergency meeting in Kurukshetra to devise a plan of action in light of the circumstances surrounding the Haryana and Punjabi borders.
On the other hand, in Sisauli, in the Muzaffarnagar district of western Uttar Pradesh, a panchayat comprising leaders and workers of the BKU Tikait faction has been called. To create a plan for the Farmers Movement 2.0, Panchayats were called on February 17. Rakesh Tikait has pushed the leaders of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh to attend.
